Greetings from the 2d Cavalry Association, September 2008

As the summer draws to a close, children return to school, and we anticipate the change of season, the time draws near when the Regiment will return to Vilseck.  Based on reports from the field the pace of operations remains high, the Regiment continues to be very much in a fight and our troops continue to perform magnificently.

Since we last communicated about activities here at the Association the on line store is now fully functional, preparations for the Regiments homecoming are moving along and work on the memorial to our Fallen Soldiers is underway.

Staff Sgt. Jeremy D. Vrooman

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Staff Sgt. Jeremy D. Vrooman, 28, of Sioux Falls, S.D., died July 15 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated while his unit was conducting combat operations in Kn’an, Iraq. He was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Vilseck, Germany.

DRAGOON FOUNDATION ESTABLISHED TO SUPPORT 2D STRYKER CAVALRY REGIMENT

VILSECK, Germany – July 2, 2008 – The Vilseck community announces the establishment of the Dragoon Foundation – a private organization designed to support the Soldiers and families of the 2d Stryker Cavalry Regiment. The Foundation serves to promote camaraderie and fellowship among the Regiment, and to honor and perpetuate the memory of those Soldiers who distinguished themselves by their services and sacrifices while serving with the 2d Stryker Cavalry Regiment.

The Dragoon Foundation, which operates through membership dues, fundraisers and private donations, is currently raising money for the purpose of creating a memorial. Located in Vilseck, Germany, the memorial will serve as a permanent reminder to the fallen Soldiers while assigned to the Regiment during its support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
