Seasons Greetings: The 76th Colonel of the 2d Cavalry Regiment, Col. Keith Barclay welcomes members of the German and American Communities to the annual tree lighting ceremony on Rose Barracks Thursday, Dec. 8.

VILSECK, Germany – The yuletide season has officially begun as Dragoons from the 2d Cavalry Regiment and members of the Rose Barracks and Vilseck communities gathered in the Post Exchange parking lot Thursday night, Dec. 8, for the annual lighting of the Christmas tree.

Special guests for the evening included the Mayor Hans Schertl of Vilseck, Col. Keith Barclay, the 76th Colonel of the 2d Cavalry Regiment, Deputy Garrison Commander Jim Van Patten and Col. Bryan Rudacile, Commander of the Joint Multinational Training Command.

“It is great to be home for the holiday season,” Barclay said. “It is wonderful to have both the German and American communities here tonight.” Read More »

VILSECK, Germany – On Friday, Nov. 18 Quickstrike Troop of the 2d Cavalry Regiment said goodbye to their commander Capt. Nicholas Forlenza during a change of command ceremony. Vilseck, Germany – For the first time since returning from deployment, Troopers from Bravo Battery, FIRES Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment rolled out the M-777 Howitzer and brushed up on their shooting procedures during a two-day live fire exercise that began Tuesday, Nov. 29 at the Grafenwoehr Training Area.

“We are out here [to] test fire the M-777 as part of our reset training”, said Sgt. 1st Class Adrian Rich, Platoon Sergeant for Bravo Battery 1st Platoon. “This is basically to get some of our new Soldiers familiar with what a live round looks like when it goes downrange.”

This live fire exercise is part of the Regiment’s ongoing reset training. Reset is a vital tool crucial in preparing a unit for future operations.

VILSECK, Germany – The Muleskinners of Regimental Service Support Squadron of the 2d Cavalry Regiment spent 48 gruelling hours recently testing their Soldier skills for a chance to earn their silver spurs and become a member of the coveted Order of the Spur. In the spirit of camaraderie and partnership RSS invited their German counterparts from the 4th Logistics Battalion to participate in the Spur ride, an event that was once only open to members of a Cavalry unit. VILSECK, Germany – Dragoons entered Memorial Gym on Rose Barracks Tues., Nov. 22 to a slice of history. Pictures depicting great moments in the history of the Native Americans adorned the walls. Artifacts and intricate bead work were displayed throughout the gym as part of the 2011 National Native American Heritage Month Celebration. This year’s theme was one to which many Soldiers could relate, “service, honor, and respect: strengthening our cultures and communities.”

The 76th Colonel of the Regiment, Col. Keith A. Barclay, opened the festivities, welcomed participants and paid tribute to the many contributions made by Native Americans throughout the years. Read More »

Tis the Season to Give: Troopers from FIRES Squadron of the 2d Cavalry Regiment collect donated food items during the Squadrons first Giddy Up for Giving 5K Run/Walk held Friday, Nov. 18 at Rose Barracks. Donations collected will be distributed to families in need throughout the Regiment.
